Don Bosco National Award consolidates Salesian commitment to innovation

(ANS – SpainZaragoza, 22 March 2023) – A wind turbine made from recycled products, bird boxes with sensors to better render what a natural landscape looks like, the science behind soap bubbles, and a study on spinal cord injury recovery were the four major winning projects of the 36th “Don Bosco” National Award held March 15-16 at the Salesians in Zaragoza.

During the two-day exhibition, the 137 participants exhibited their 58 projects, presenting and explaining them to all the people who visited the different pavilions, including the jury, composed of professionals in the field and companies. This edition was also attended by two members of the Ministry of Education, demonstrating the Spanish government’s support for this award, now in its 36th year.

The winning projects in this edition were:

– in the Industrial Technology category, the “Aeromimetics” project, a wind turbine made from recycled products, created by Daniel Ferriz and Elena Sáez, from Villena (Alicante);

– in the Information Technology category, “Nesting Monitoring,” bird boxes with sensors to better render the appearance of a natural landscape, by Víctor Gea and Alberto Cánovas of Orihuela (Alicante);

– in the Science category, “Soap Bubbles,” which analyzes the science behind it, thanks to the work of Paula Gómez, from Lleida;

– finally, in the Health Sciences category, “Comparative study of different cell therapies,” on spinal cord injury recovery, by Estel Gubianes, of Sabadell.

The Commitment Award went to the “Edebé” Publishing Group, for its support of the “Don Bosco” National Award since its inception.

The gala was attended by numerous dignitaries from the world of business, education, and the Salesian congregation. In addition, the gala was concluded by Felipe Faci, Education and Culture Councilor of the Government of Aragon.

For Salesian School Director of Zaragoza, Merche López, the 36th edition of the event, “was very interesting: for the participants, to experience the atmosphere that is generated at this event, share experiences and good practices; and for the companies, to learn about their projects and take an interest in their talent and their future, which encourages them to continue working with enthusiasm.”

Over the course of the different editions, more and more companies and organizations have become involved, as they see this event as a pool of talent and interesting projects.

This year, public, state-subsidized, and private schools from 12 autonomous communities participated. The types of projects were very diverse and pertained to the following areas: industrial, which includes mechatronics, electronics, and robotics; the communications area, with telecommunications, audiovisual technologies, information and communication technologies; the science area, which includes physics, chemistry, and mathematics; and the health sciences and social and legal sciences area, which evaluates projects in medicine, psychology, and humanities.
