Salesian Education in Europe (ANS –RMG – Rome, 6 October 2010) –At last any day now the Salesian houses all round the world should be receiving a box with 2 DVD, a summary of the III European Congress on Salesian Schools and Technical Vocational Training. Held last February at Sanlúcar la Mayor, in the Province of Spain-Seville (SVA), the Congress was an opportunity for Salesians and Daughters of Mary Help of Christians who are working in schools in Europe for discussion and assessment. Set within a framework of analysis begun in 2001, the III Congress presented those directly involved with two significant conclusions: the need to begin an evaluation process regarding Salesian schools and a commitment to set up formation procedures which are specifically Salesian. The Missioni Don Bosco Media Centre has now completed the work which will enable people to enjoy the material produced at the Congress. The two DVD provide teachers and all interested Salesians the opportunity to examine the teaching material produced as well as the background to the event and its conclusions. Therefore the first DVD contains the original reports, talks, discussions and other documents produced during the four days of the Congress in addition to the tables, schemes, informative material, video contributions and powerpoint documents employed. In this way the person using the DVD has available the ample theoretical-practical material produced by various centres in Europe and more useful examples of good practice in the area of Salesian education. Then the second DVD, presents interviews, and the public debates which took place in the course of the Congress. The film material lasting 82 minutes is available in Spanish, Italian, English, French, German, Portuguese and Polish. The boxed DVDs will be useful for further reflection and discussion and for making more widely known the “Profile of the Salesian educator in schools and technical vocational training centres in Europe” the topic to which the Congress at Sanlúcar la Mayor was dedicated. They will also be useful for a more general reflection on teaching methods and the distinctive features of Salesian education in the Old Continent, thus making a valuable contribution also in the context of the Project for Europe. |
