10 years efforts and hopes

(ANS - BelgiumHeverlee, 6 July 2011) – This year the Salesian European network “Don Bosco Youth Net” is ten years old: ten years spent promoting involvement by young people, the exchange of ideas and getting to know others from different countries.

“Don Bosco Youth Net” (DBYN) is an international net work of Youth Ministry Offices Salesian organisations inspired by Don Bosco’s style of education. Since it began ten years ago DBYN has been engaged in training young Europeans and getting them involved by means of meetings seminars and international gatherings. The aim has always been to make them active citizens and protagonists in various representative bodies bringing the voice of Don Bosco and of young people to all the international organisations.

In 2001 no one knew just how the network would evolve and where it would go, but the inspiration to work  with and for the young in Don Bosco’s way was the guiding principle  for every activity.

The DBYN has many strengths and the main one is the young people themselves with their talents, energy, ideas and idealism working as a group. In addition,  the contribution  offered by the Salesian communities with their structures and educational activities in all the countries of Europe has been fundamental together with the European Institutions providing the funding which has made it possible to undertake many activities and enable the network to grow.

Another driving force behind the DBYN has been the hope of being able to undertake projects and in this way help all the young people in the world.

As they look to the future, those responsible for the DBYN see that the efforts and the hopes which have marked these first ten years will continue to show the love and the care which God has for the young making use of the spirit of Don Bosco in the XXI century.
