鮑思高第九任繼承人查偉思神父，今天以充滿信賴與希望的言詞，邀請青年重新發掘鮑思高神父的靈修，並把他「與我靈，取其餘」的計劃，在今天變得有意義和應用於生活上。當今天早上，他在鮑思高崗主持意大利慈幼青年運動2013聚會感恩祭時，發表了這篇講話。這感恩祭亦標誌著鮑思高誕辰二百周年的第三年，即最後一年準備工夫的開始。
在查偉思神父的講道中，他重申有需要把鮑思高神父的靈修作為我們一切事業的基礎。他引用一名路德會教授Walter Nigg的說話時表示：「假如忽略他聖人的一面，便不能把他完全展現出來。他作為聖人這方面的類別，應超越他教育者的類別。假如把次序顛倒了，便歪曲了真正的價值等級。」
接著，總會長指出一些慈幼靈修的重點，例如關顧青年、尤其有需要者，關心專門的教育法及教學法，專心祈禱並留意教會及社會。
查偉思神父接著指出，牧靈愛德是基督徒靈修「首要誡命及動力泉
源」；他闡述說，鮑思高神父常抱著信賴與充滿信德的眼光，看待青年為被上主召叫度今生和來世快樂的生活，他的理念是致力服務鄰人，藉此，「天主教徒成為社會的酵母及日常生活的組成元素。」
總會長在結束時說：「讓我們偕同鮑思高神父，並在他的帶領下與基督相會，同時，像他一樣，我們將會發現侍奉上主是何等喜樂！」
Draw from the sources of Don Bosco’s Spirituality
(ANS - Italy –Castelnuovo Don Bosco, 16 August 2013) – In words filled with trust and hope Fr Pascual Chávez, 9th Successor of Don Bosco, today invited young people to rediscover Don Bosco's spirituality and make his programme of the Da mihi animas, coetera tolle relevant and alive once more for today. He said this at Colle Don Bosco at the Mass he celebrated for the SYM Italy 2013 youth meeting this morning, which also marked the beginning of the third and final year of preparation for the Bicentenary of Don Bosco's birth
In his homily during the Mass Fr Chávez recalled the need to put Don Bosco's spirituality at the basis of all our work: “Presenting him by overlooking the fact that he was a Saint would be to present just a half truth. The category of saint has to take precedence over that of the educator. Any other order of things would falsify the true hierarchy of values” he said, quoting a Lutheran professor, Walter Nigg.
The Rector Major then pointed to some of the key points of Salesian spirituality such as attention to the young, especially those most in need, a specific educational and pedagogical system, dedication to prayer and a special focus on the Church and society.
Fr Chávez then pointed to pastoral charity as the “first commandment and source of energy” for Christian spirituality; he illustrated the trusting and faith-filled vision that Don Bosco had of youth who are called to be happy now and in eternity, his idea of commitment to our neighbour, by which “the Catholic becomes a leaven in society and the texture of daily life”.
