"I'm carrying out God's dream." Anthony Leung, the second Salesian missionary from China

(ANS - Sierra LeoneLungi, 03 July 2017) – Anthony Leung is a young Salesian cleric born in Hong Kong and called to be missionary; he is currently carrying out a two-year training period in Sierra Leone. He is the second missionary in Salesian history that comes from China.

Anthony visits the Salesian schools daily, shares games and the Catechesis with the children and, above all, the joy of Don Bosco, as he says, to ensure that in the future they are "good Christians and honest citizens."

The story of his vocation and his daily work is a great testimony of Salesian faith: "I was baptized when I was a primary school pupil. I really did not know anything about God and wondered why was so many people believed in what they could not see. My teacher told me it would be very good for me in the future that I was a Catholic, so I just accepted it."

After graduating from secondary school, for five years he had several jobs: he worked in an airport, hotel, office, and even in a school. "I've lived many experiences. I was very happy because I had much money to buy things I wanted. I traveled to other countries, had many friends and I was also in love with a girl, but I felt that I was lost," the young salesian says. "When I entered school, a Salesian told me that I had been led there by Mary Help of Christians. Now I look back and I realize it's true," he continues.

This idea remained in his heart for more than two years. He abandoned prayer and quit attending mass. He totally lost contact with God for two years, and in the end he realized that his life was useless: "because I did not feel like facing reality and I was scared," he remembers.

During the 2008 World Youth Day in Australia, he clearly understood God's summons.

"When the Pope lifted the consecrated host I had this very strong impression that he was calling me to follow Him, to work for Him. After that trip I decided to enter the Salesian seminary. I talked to my parents, but the news shook them. My mother was crying and we did not talk about it for almost a week, but I wanted to really follow the path of religious life and now I'm living that dream."
