(ANS\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Italy\u2013Turin<\/strong>,\u00a028 March 2025) \u2013<\/strong><\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0General Chapter<\/strong>\u00a0of the\u00a0Salesian Congregation<\/strong>\u00a0has elected\u00a0Fr. Fidel Maria Orendain<\/strong>\u00a0as the new\u00a0General Councilor for Social Communication.\u00a0<\/strong>He currently serves as the\u00a0Provincial of the “Mary Help of Christians<\/em>” Province of Southern Philippines (FIS).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Article 137<\/strong> of the Salesian Constitutions<\/strong>,<\/strong> \u201cthe General Councilor for Social Communication is responsible for animating the Congregation in this area. He promotes Salesian initiatives in the field of Social Communication and coordinates, at the global level, the centers and structures managed by the Congregation in this sector.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fr. Orendain<\/strong>, a Filipino Salesian, was born on April 24, 1965, in Manila<\/strong>, <\/strong>and is currently 59 years old<\/strong>. He completed his Salesian novitiate in Canlubang (1984-1985)<\/strong> and made his first profession on April 1, 1985<\/strong>. He professed perpetual vows on March 24, 1993, in Para\u00f1aque<\/strong>, where he was also ordained a priest on December 8, 1993<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 2001 to 2003<\/strong>,<\/strong> he pursued Salesian Spirituality studies<\/strong> in <\/strong>Berkeley, California<\/strong>. He later earned a Master\u2019s degree in Communication<\/strong> from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.<\/strong>,<\/strong> and a Doctorate in Communication<\/strong> from the University of the Philippines<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within the FIS Province<\/strong>, <\/strong>Fr. Orendain has served at the Talisay-Lawa-an Formation Center<\/strong>, <\/strong>Don Bosco Technical Institute \u2013 Boys\u2019 Town<\/strong>,<\/strong> and the Provincial House in Talamban, Cebu City<\/strong>. <\/strong>In 2019<\/strong>, he was appointed Rector of Don Bosco Technical Institute \u2013 Boys\u2019 Town<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For over 20 years<\/strong>, he has been actively involved in Social Communication<\/strong> for the FIS Province<\/strong>. Additionally, he has held positions as President, Dean, and Vice Principal for Academics<\/strong> at Don Bosco Technical Institute \u2013 Boys\u2019 Town<\/strong>. He also served as Regional Coordinator for Region VII<\/strong> of the Philippine Catholic Education Association<\/strong>, overseeing 124 Catholic schools across the Visayas archipelago<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March of last year<\/strong>, <\/strong>Cardinal \u00c1ngel Fern\u00e1ndez Artime<\/strong>, then Rector Major<\/strong>, appointed him as a member of the Pre-Chapter Commission of GC29<\/strong>, representing the East Asia\u2013Oceania Region<\/strong>. During the initial days of the General Chapter, he was also selected as the Salesian responsible for drafting the summaries of the English Commission-1\u2019s discussions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
