The Asian Youth Day IV, organized by the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences and the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, took place in Hong Kong from 30 July to 4 August 2006.  Catholic youth from over 20 Asian countries came to participate in this event, which bears the theme “Hope, Youth of Asian Families”.

Among them were Salesian youth from the Philippines and India.  They gathered with Hong Kong Salesian youth on 5 August in Tang King Po School for a “Five-Star Family” activity.  As members of the Salesian family, they were united under the same mission to encourage sacrifice, tolerance, animation, respect and service in their families and communities.

The day began with an opening ceremony and sessions of Action Song dance-along.  Participants then enjoyed various games and activities, which were designed to enhance their faith in building the Salesian family spirit.  Fr. Dominic Sequeira (General Councilor of Youth Ministry) and Fr.Vaclav Klement (Regional of East Asia and Oceania) also delivered speeches on the importance of maintaining a close and loving relationship with one’s family, so that St. Versiglia and St. Caravario’s work can be passed on constantly in one’s daily life.

After a brief experience sharing from different Asian Salesian communities, a mass was celebrated by Bishop Patrick Buzon (Salesian Bishop of Kabakalan).  Participants were reminded again of the 5 virtues of a Salesian youth, trusting that they would spread them on as the roots of each family.  The day was finally ended in a vibe of dancing, singing and heart-warming hugs and goodbyes.
