Annual Pro-Life Youth Rally: “Real love brings you closer to family, friends and God” (ANS - South Orange- United States , 28 Apr 2009) - Leading pro-life speakers, Jason Evert and Fr. Bill Habling called on high school students to practice chastity and spread the pro-life message at New Jersey’s 6th annual Pro-Life Youth Rally held on Friday, April 24th at Seton Hall University. The rally, which is sponsored annually by the Salesians of Don Bosco, under the constant leadership of Fr Steve Ryan SDB, drew almost 1,000 high school students from thirty high schools and two parishes. Jason Evert, a well-known speaker on chastity and founder of the Pure Love Club, delivered the rally’s keynote speech saying that modern culture too often confuses “love with lust.” Instead of embracing what society teaches, Evert told students, “sex is worth waiting for.” “When it’s real love you’ll know it because it brings you closer to family, friends, and God”, he said. Evert encouraged students to go to confession, attend mass, and maintain a devotion to Mary in order to live chaste lives. The rally concluded with a mass presided by Fr. Bill Halbing and concelebrated by nine other priests. In his homily, Fr, Halbing called on the students to be pure, allow God’s light to shine through their brokenness, expose the world to God, and to grow deeper in the things of God. “You need to proclaim to the whole nation, abortion has got to stop,” Fr. Habling urged the students. In recognition of their work on behalf of the pro-life cause Christine Flaherty, founder of Lifenet a pro-life educational organization, Gabe Roman, president of the Queen of Peace High School pro-life club, and Chris Barron, the president of the Don Bosco Prep High School pro-life club were given awards at the end of the mass by Fr. Ryan. |
