Father George commented, “I am more than delighted to accept this award on behalf of the North Huyton community. Together, we have all worked hard to ensure that local people have access to improved homes, better schools, new health facilities, greater training and employment opportunities but there is still more work to complete and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.”

North Huyton New Deal for Communities (NDC) is a sustainable regeneration initiative awarded £55.8 million from government, to invest in the North Huyton NDC area over 10 years.  It aims to remove barriers to achievement that many North Huyton residents experience in their day-to-day lives. Local people have identified their main concerns as employment and the local economy, education, health, housing, the environment, crime and community safety.

The Order of the British Empire recognises distinguished service to the arts and sciences, public services outside the Civil Service and work with charitable and welfare organisations of all kinds. It has several ranks, including the MBE (Member of the British Empire). It was created during the First World War in 1917 by King George V. The investiture takes place in Buckingham Palace when the Queen or the Prince of Wales places the decoration on the person concerned and congratulates each individually on receiving the award.
