這次會面已於去年夏天公佈，在一連串週年慶典及其他活動期間進行。二零零八年全會代表大會過後，一眾慈幼會士正研讀和發揚對會祖神恩的忠貞，並重宣他們實踐宗徒工作的努力。修會創會一百五十週年紀念 (1859-2009)、鮑思高首位繼承人真福盧華神父逝世一百週年紀念 (1910-2010)，以及2015年鮑思高誕辰二百週年的籌備工作，有助燃起這一份忠貞。此外，慈幼會主教會面，剛好緊隨著首位慈幼會主教及樞機被祝聖一百二十五年紀念（1884年12月7日）。 這陣子，在慈幼會士世界及教會的生活中，這會面還遇著這幾項事件：華度角及都靈的傳統特殊活動──瑪利亞進教之佑瞻禮、聖殮布展覽閉幕禮，以及歐洲慈幼會初學生會面。

The meeting, already announced last summer, is taking place within a series of anniversaries and other events. After the 26 General Chapter held in 2008 the Salesian Congregation is studying and developing its fidelity to the charism of its founder and re-launching its apostolic endeavours. It has been helped in its efforts by the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Congregation (1859-2009), the centenary of the death of the first successor of Don Bosco, Blessed Michael Rua, (1910-2010) and the preparations for the bi-centenary of the birth on Don Bosco in 2015. In particular, the meeting of the Salesian Bishops follows the 125th anniversary of the consecration of Bishop Giovanni Cagliero (7 December 1884), the first Salesian Bishop and Cardinal. It is also taking place in the context of events in the life of the Church and of the Salesian world in these days: the Feast of Mary Help of Christians which is traditionally a very special occasion in Valdocco and Turin, and the conclusion of the display of the Holy Shroud and also a meeting of the Salesian novices in Europe. Of the 119 Salesian Bishops (of whom 5 are Cardinals), 93 (4 Cardinals) have confirmed that they will be present. The theme of the meeting is “The Salesian Charism and the Episcopal Ministry.” Among topics to be considered are Salesian spirituality and the episcopal state, the education and evangelisation of the young. ANS will be giving regular updates on the meeting with news items and short videos on ANSchannel.
