【慈幼通訊社 2010 6 28 羅馬慈幼總部訊】 ─ 晚訓是慈幼會生活及文化中比較典型的特徵之一,總會長講了一次晚訓,主題為:一個會墮入被遺忘風險的做法。

六月二十二日,晚禱結束時,查偉思神父向參與暑期全體會議的議會議員,以及一些最新任命,現正在羅馬參與培育課程的省會長,作了傳統的晚訓。他的主題為晚訓。

這個慈幼會的傳統,由鮑思高神父媽媽瑪加利大所開始,她向鮑思高神父帶來的第二批男孩,在他們晚上睡覺前,作了簡單的講話。翌日早晨,鮑思高神父發覺這批男孩仍在安睡,不像第一批男孩已起來,擅自拿去被單和毛毯走了,便稱讚媽媽在晚上所作的講話。

查偉思神父說:「畢竟晚訓是家庭活動!」他回想鮑思高神父如何把這項任務留給自己執行,若他不在時,盧華神父如何為一整天作結:「因此,即使在很小的團體中,院長或省會長都擔任著這個團體父親的特殊角色。」

總會長提及晚訓的三個優點。首先,經過一天的勞碌,晚訓能使心靈回復安寧。「我們每每以急速的步伐過我們的日常生活。現今最大的危機就是成為工作狂,一種新形式的偶像崇拜,經常使我們經過一天的勞碌後,變得沮喪、疲勞、有心理壓力、心靈空虛。晚訓有助會士兄弟恢復心靈平安的時刻。」

晚訓有助我們把焦點再放回我們生命的中心及一致性中。「在一天結束時,我們做了並經歷很多事;晚訓有助我們將之集合起來,避免人們各自各走自己的路和做自己的事。」

最後,晚訓教導我們從基督徒角度看事物。「這不僅是講一些美好的事,給予資訊或是提供一些信息,更是從信徒的角度,體察生命及歷史。」這避免在歷史、人生經歷及靈修生活之間出現割裂。「這是十分重要的,有助我們身邊的人,從信仰角色了解歷史!」

查偉思神父指出,他所講述的事物,以及晚訓的實踐,如何有助創造一種真正的慈幼會文化,令這種慈幼會式觀察事物、面向生命及團體內的關係得以成長。

「如果我們擱置實踐晚訓,會士兄弟的生命將變得越來越個人化及分離。我們需要返回華度角的傳統,再一次強調實踐晚訓的重要性。晚訓是慈幼會的一個特徵,一種我們典型的實踐,在其他修會中不會找到。這是我們需要保存的其中一項寶貴的事物!」

A Good Night …on the Good Night

(ANS – ROME  - RMG , 28 June 2010) – The Good Night one of the more characteristic features of Salesian life and culture was the subject of a Good Night by the  Rector Major: a practice which runs the risk of being forgotten.

On 22 June at the end of Evening Prayer, Fr Pascual Chávez gave the traditional Good Night to the members of the General Council meeting for their summer plenary session, and some recently appointed Provincials in Rome for a formation course. His subject was the Good Night.

This Salesian tradition was begun by Mamma Margaret who to a second groups of boys Don Bosco had taken in, one evening before they went to bed for the night, gave a little talk. When next morning Don Bosco found them all still sleeping soundly unlike the first group  who had gone off with the sheets and blankets, and gave the credit to the little talk his mother had given the evening.

“Above all the Good Night is  a family event!” Fr Chávez said recalling how Don Bosco reserved this task to himself or in his absence how Don Rua brought the day to a close: “It is therefore the specific role of the Father of the community, the Rector or the Provincial; even in small communities.”

The Rector Major mentioned three advantages of the practice of the Good Night. The first is that it can restore peace of heart at the end of the day. “We are so used to living life at a fast pace. Nowadays the great danger is to become workaholics, a new form of idolatry which often leaves us at the end of the day with a sense of frustration, physical tiredness, psychological  stress and spiritual emptiness. The Good Night is a moment which helps the confreres to restore peace in their hearts.”

The Good Night helps to re-focus on the centre and the unity of one’s life. “At the end of the day, we have done and experienced so many things; the Good Night helps us to bring them all together and avoid people going their own way and doing their own thing.”

Finally the  Good Night teaches us to see things from a Christian perspective. “It is not a matter of just saying something good, giving information or offering some message, but of seeing life, history through the eyes of  a believer.” This avoids any dycotomy between history, lived experiehce and the spiritual life. “It is very important to help those close to us to undestand history from a faith perspective!”

Fr Chávez pointed out how the things he indicated and the actual practice of the Good Night help to create a real genuine Salesian culture, a Salesian way of seeing things, of facing up to life and to relationships within the community grow.

“If we let the practice of the Good Night fall into abeyance, the confreres’ lives will become more and more individualistic, isolated. We need to return to the tradition of Valdocco and once again give force and significance to the practice of the Good Night . The Good Night is one of the characteristic  features of  the Salesians, a practice which is typically ours, not found in other in Congregation. It is one of the most precious things that we need to preserve!”
