VIS and “Don Bosco Mission Bonn” also working for needs of Ukrainian population

(ANS – Rome–RMG, 3 March 2022) – There are indeed many Salesian realities that are working to give relief to the Ukrainian population, victims of the war. Among them, there are also two important professional organizations of solidarity, such as the Italian NGO “Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo” (VIS) and “Don Bosco Mission Bonn”, the Salesian Mission Office active in Germany.

“We have started the fundraising last weekend with the newsletter via e-mail and letters via traditional mail,” says Silvia Cromm, Head of the Programs and Projects Department. “We are in very close contact with Fr Mikhaylo Chaban, as we have been supporting the Salesian project in Lviv for many years, where Fr Mikhaylo was director before becoming Superior of the Vice Province of the Greek Catholic Ukraine – UKR”.

In Germany, some homes have already begun welcoming refugees from Ukraine.

And “Don Bosco Mission Bonn”, thanks to its institutional benefactors, has already received the first substantial donations, which were sent this morning, March 3.

Although the current situation makes it difficult to calculate the necessary budget, the Salesian Mission Office is working to collect data and adequately plan the solidarity response.

For its part, VIS has also launched a fundraising campaign for the crisis in Ukraine, also through a letter sent to its traditional benefactors.

“Furthermore, we are thinking about sending our staff next week to the neighboring countries to collect data to elaborate a needs assessment, useful to develop a comprehensive proposal,” said Chiara Lombardi, Director of the Salesian NGO.

And, again, “we are trying to coordinate ourselves with the other Salesian entities in Italy active in this regard,” she added.

“Every gesture of solidarity, of any entity, is important and helps! Thank you!” is the message shared by the Salesian realities engaged on the humanitarian front.
