Moloney

Scripture scholar starts Lectio Divina Podcast

(ANS AustraliaMelbourne, 16 February 2018) – The Media Team at the Australia-Pacific Province released a new series of podcasts. “Audio Divina” is a lectio-divina inspired Podcast that features high-quality, meticulously researched reflections provided by world-renowned Biblical scholar Rev. Professor Francis J. Moloney, SDB AM. It will update every Wednesday with content related to the following Sunday’s Gospel.

Lectio Divina is a traditional Benedictine practice of scriptural reading, meditation and prayer intended to promote communion with God and to increase the knowledge of God’s Word. It does not treat Scripture as texts to be studied, but as the Living Word. Traditionally, Lectio Divina has four separate steps: read; meditate; pray; contemplate. First a passage of Scripture is read, then its meaning is reflected upon. This is followed by prayer and contemplation on the Word of God.

Of course every consecrated person will already be well aware of the meaning of Lectio Divina and of its value for one’s own spiritual growth, but how many young people and lay persons know and practice it?

For this reason the Salesians of AUL have decided to share and broadcast the Lectio Divina through a medium that is easily accessible to all those who take part in the digital world.

The podcast will eventually cover every Sunday reading over years A, B and C of the Liturgical calendar, offering a fantastic resource to those who are studying, or who simply hunger for the gift that comes from listening and understanding the Word of God.

Fr Moloney has worked closely with the Gospel texts for many decades and has taught Biblical Studies in a range of settings, within Australia, Europe, Israel, South East Asia and the USA. He is also the author of many books, both scholarly and popular.

But there is also another aspect one needs to highlight regarding the initiative, one that is perfectly in line with the spirit of digital media: sharing, mutual collaboration and the direct involvement of its users.

Fr Moloney explains:

“We are looking for people to read the Gospel text for the podcast, and all you need is a smart phone or a digital recording device and your voice. We will email you the instructions and the passage that need to be recorded.”

You can choose to listen to the podcast from the Salesians website, or via iTunes and Spotify.
