After 150 years Don Bosco’s missionary dream continues
(ANS – Rome – RMG, 01 October 2025) – 11 November 1875: on this date the first group of Salesian missionaries was sent to Argentina. 150 years later Don Bosco’s missionary dream continues thanks to the generous ‘yes’ of so many Salesian confreres called to spend their lives as missionaries of the Gospel in a special way. We are thus approaching the 156th missionary expedition which will take place on11 November at 5pm in Valdocco.
Today the Salesians are present in 137 countries around the world and in this special year the whole Salesian Family is invited to ‘Give Thanks, Rethink, Relaunch’ the Salesian missions in an act of generosity and creative fidelity to the charism.
The new missionaries come from all continents and are sent to all continents, in a missionary paradigm shift based on reciprocity. On Sunday 5 October, they will begin their specific formation through the so-called ‘Germoglio Course’, starting in Genzano/Rome, and then with stops at Colle Don Bosco, Mornese and Valdocco, before receiving, at the hands of the Rector Major, the Missionary Cross in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, in Turin.
‘Let us join them in prayer and accompaniment for this generous “yes” to the Lord for the good of so many young people,’ is the exhortation that comes from the Salesian Congregation’s Missions Sector.
