iBreviary can pray in ‘Salesian’

(ANS - RMG –Rome, 7 August 2012) – The iBreviary Pro Terra Sancta application now offers an interesting possibility: Salesian Proper Liturgies. Available in an IOS version (iPhone, iPad or iPod touch), the app will soon be ready for smart phones and other devices using the Android platform.

In view of the Bicentenary of Don Bosco’s birth, the Social Communications department has teamed up with iBreviary, which was the idea of Fr Paolo Padrini and is promoted by Custodia Terrae Sanctae and the Pro Terra Sancta Association as a service to the universal Church which has a driving heart in the Holy Places.

Fr Paolo Padrini, the creator of the application, is parish priest of San Giorgio in Stazzano. He worked with the Pontifical Council for Social Communications on the Pope2You project and is a consultant for many religious organisations in the field of Church communications.

The project, supported by the Rector Major himself, began to take shape.

By downloading, or updating iBreviary Pro Terra Sancta on his or her own device, a user can activate Salesian Proper Liturgies during the setting up of the app. On the appropriate days in the Salesian liturgical calendar, the app will provide special texts for the Liturgy of the Hours and the Mass.

When he heard the news that the new version of iBreviary had been put online, Fr Filiberto Gonzalez, General Councillor for Social Communications was in Mexico at a course for Social Communications Delegates from the two American regions. He said ‘The commitment of the Department, especially ANS, to produce an app with Salesian Proper Liturgies arises from a conviction based on faith and our charism: celebrating the presence of God in human history, seeking to follow the Son of God who became flesh to make present the love of the Father, and offering young people an experience of prayer which is intimate, simple and joyous as they communicate daily with God.’

Salesian Proper Liturgies is available as of now from the Apple Store and on sdb.org, with user instructions, in Italian, English and French. In the next few weeks a new version of iBreviary Pro Terra Sancta will be released for devices using the Android platform. The Spanish edition should be ready in the autumn.
